On the second Monday of Advent, 2012, The Most Reverend Kevin W. Vann was installed as the Fourth Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Orange County in a special celebratory mass attended by several thousand worshipers. To accommodate the crowd, the Bren Events Center on the campus of the University of California, Irvine was transformed into a festive worship center.
With the Archbishop of Los Angeles, The Most Reverend Jose Horacio Gomez, presiding, Bishop Vann was installed with appropriate pomp and circumstance, supported by a full contingent of musicians, including a 150-voice choir directed by Matthew Gray, music director at the Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano. Also participing was a brass and percussion ensemble, Organists Mark Purcell and Steven Van Wye, and Cantors Lauren McCaul and Joe Bazyorous.
Church Keyboard Center supplied a three-manual Rodgers digital organ that provided the musical backbone for the choir and liturgical music throughout the mass, amply filling the 5,000-seat arena.
