Rodgers Instruments Corporation is accepting applications for the 2012 North American Classical Organ Competition.
New this year are two competition divisions. Another development is the expansion of regional competitions to locations in both the U.S. and Canada to provide easier access for competitors. The Rodgers Organs showroom at Church Keyboard Center in San Dimas, CA will be the site of the West Coast regional competition. A Rodgers Model 356B is used for the competition performances–contestants will have an opportunity to practice and set registrations in advance at the Rodgers Organs showroom. The final round of the competition will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012. For the second year, Kutztown University of Pennsylvania has offered to host the final event, which will include a public performance by the top three winners. Dr. Ina Grapenthin, professor of music at Kutztown, will again direct the competition with the assistance of a distinguished judging panel.
Cash prizes will be awarded for both the upper and lower divisions of the competition. In the upper division, the prizes will be $3,000 for first place, $2,000 for second and $1,000 for third. In the lower division, prizes will be $1,000 for first place, $500 for second and $250 for third.
The deadline to enter the competition is February 1, 2012.
