New Rodgers Organ Dedicated in Reseda, California

Musicians performing at the dedicationed concert (L to R): Robert Jolly, Dr. David Carrington, Carol Piekaar, Joyce Osborn, Eric Cloud and Zeljko Marasovich.

The Rodgers 356B Masterpiece organ installed at Kirk O’ the Valley Presbyterian Church in January 2011 was inaugurated with a varied program performed by organist Zeljko Marasovich, and three other organists who are members of the congregation: Dr. David Carrington, Eric Cloud and Carol Piekaar.  Also participating in the program was drummer Robert Jolly and the Kirl O’ the Valley handbell choir under the direction of Joyce Osborn.

The entirely member-performed program showcased the broad versatility of the three-manual, 56-stop Rodgers organ, featuring French and German organ repertoire, a Gershwin transcription of Summer Time that exploited orchestral MIDI voices, and an arrangement of Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee that paired the organ with the Roland V-Drums.

The Roland V-Drums and Rodgers organ, used together for one piece in the concert, elicited an enthusiastic response from concert attendees.

The organ is a memorial to Joyce Osborn’s late husband, Thomas Osborn, long-time music director at Kirk, and Sue Taylor, the late wife of Craig Taylor, both of whom were founding members of the Kirk bell choir.
